Mourning Sampler: Free cross stitch pattern

Inspired by traditional mourning samplers, this pattern features symbolic motifs that can be personalized with a loved one’s initials and a chosen figure on the urn. The design incorporates historical funerary imagery, including a willow tree (immortality and life after death), brambles (grief), roses (love, sorrow), and a headstone angel (passage into the afterlife).

The model is stitched on 40 ct Old Sheep linen by xJuDesign using one strand of DMC over 2 threads. The stitch count is 90 wide x 108 high. The “Supplies” page includes conversions to multiple counts of Aida and linen/evenweave.
